How We Use AI at Law Connection Group-Colombia

AI is now part of how most businesses work, and law firms are no exception. When you hire a lawyer you are trusting a person with something important, so you have a right to know exactly where AI is used in your case and where it is not. This page sets that out plainly. The short version is that our lawyers do the legal work and AI helps with language.

Where we use AI

  • Translating documents and written legal arguments from Spanish so you can read them

  • Translating and editing guides written by our lawyers into plain English

Where we never use AI

  • Drafting legal documents

  • Deciding case strategy or giving advice

  • Composing emails, messages or any other communication with you

  • Summarising your documents

Your legal documents are written by lawyers

Every legal document prepared by our team is written by a person. That includes claims, responses, appeals, contracts, powers of attorney, settlement agreements and anything else filed or signed on your behalf. We do not use AI to draft any of them.

The reason is simple. A legal document is built from the facts of your case, your evidence and the law that applies to it, and the lawyer who signs it is professionally responsible for every word. That responsibility cannot be handed to a tool.

Strategy and decisions are made by lawyers

AI plays no part in deciding how your case is run. It is not used to choose a legal strategy, assess your chances, or recommend whether to negotiate, file or appeal.

Those decisions depend on judgment that comes from handling real cases. Your lawyer weighs how Colombian courts work in practice, the position of the other side, the strength of your evidence and what you want to achieve. When we recommend a course of action, a lawyer stands behind it and can explain the reasoning to you directly.

Translations

Documents for Colombian courts and authorities must be in Spanish. Legal arguments are also best written in Spanish, because they need to be precise in the language of the law they rely on. Many of our clients do not read Spanish well enough to follow these documents, so we use AI to translate them into English or another language.

These are full translations and never summaries. A summary means something has decided what to leave out, and in a legal matter the detail is often what counts. What you read is what the original says.

A member of our team reviews every translation before it is sent to you. The Spanish original is always the official version. The translation is there to help you understand your case and is not a certified translation for official use.

We currently use OpenAI for translation, through a business account that keeps your documents private. Documents translated this way are not used to train AI models.

Our website content

Every guide on this website is written by a lawyer first. Each one starts with one of our senior lawyers, who practises in that area of law and writes the content from their own knowledge and experience of real cases. The law, the process and the practical points in each guide all come from that lawyer.

Our lawyers usually write in Spanish, and in the precise legal terms of their profession, which mean little to someone outside it. A guide is only useful if you can follow it. So once the lawyer has written the content, we use AI to translate it and edit it into clear English that makes sense to a person who has never dealt with Colombian law. AI works on the language and layout only. It does not supply the legal content.

Nothing is published until it has been checked for legal accuracy. Our guides are general information and are not a substitute for advice on your own situation.

You will always deal with a real person

Every email, text message and phone call comes from a member of our team, and all of our staff speak English. When you ask a question, the answer comes from a person.

There is one situation where AI helps. When a lawyer needs to send you a detailed legal argument, it is written in Spanish first, because the reasoning has to be exact in the language of the law. We then use AI to translate that message or email into English so you can read it. The content is always written by the lawyer, and AI is never used to decide what we say to you. If anything in a translated message is unclear, tell us and we will explain it.

If you use AI yourself

Many clients use AI tools during their case, and they can be very useful. They are good for getting through long documents, for explaining a legal argument in simpler terms and for helping you prepare questions. You are always welcome to raise a point with our team that came from an AI tool, and we will give you a clear answer on it.

We do ask you to keep its limits in mind. AI builds its answers from information that is publicly available online. It cannot see much of the material lawyers rely on, and it has never run a real case in a Colombian court. It knows nothing about your file beyond what you give it. It can also mix in rules from other countries, rely on outdated law, or refer to laws and rulings that do not exist. An answer can sound confident and still be wrong for your situation.

When an AI answer differs from our advice, it is easy to assume the AI is right, and that can create friction that does not help your case. If you use AI to review our work, please treat what it tells you as a question to bring to us. Send us the point and we will explain where we agree, where we disagree and why.

One practical note. Your case documents are confidential, so think carefully before uploading them to a public AI tool.
