Whitman Dario Hernandez Deaza - Senior Associate

Whitman Dario Hernandez Deaza is the Lead Divorce Lawyer at LCG-Colombia. He has more than ten years of litigation experience and represents foreign nationals and expats in divorce and family matters before the Colombian courts. He studied law at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, one of the country's most respected law schools, and completed his specialization in Private Economic Law there. Before going into private practice he worked inside Colombia's judicial branch, so he knows how family cases are handled from the other side of the bench.

Personal Story

​

Whitman works from our head office in Bogotá, but he travels often to support clients across Colombia. That includes our offices in Medellín, Cali, Cartagena, Barranquilla, Santa Marta, Bucaramanga, Pereira and Manizales. Clients keep the same lead lawyer no matter where their case is heard. He has also lived in the United Kingdom, Australia and the United States, so he knows firsthand what it's like to build a life in another country and deal with an unfamiliar legal system. Many of his clients have a marriage that crosses borders, with a spouse, children or property in more than one country. Whitman understands the practical and personal weight that carries. He is also the father of one child, which gives him a real sense of what is at stake for parents when custody and child support are part of a separation.

Representative Experience

Whitman started his career as a public servant in the Colombian judicial branch, working as Oficial Mayor and Sustanciador in civil and family courts. In those roles he managed case files, prepared draft decisions and followed proceedings from the first filing to the final ruling. In more than ten years as a litigator he has represented clients in contested and uncontested divorces, marital property division, custody and support disputes, and civil claims. He builds each case around a clear procedural strategy and careful handling of evidence, and he is a confident oral advocate in hearings.
